General Facilities
A wide selection of areas, sites and buildings of historical, scientific and archeological interest exist in the surrounding area from the Megalithic remains on Slievemore in Achill to the new visitors centre at the Céide Fields in North Mayo which show how the 5,000 year old settlement was found and how people lived at the time. Other places of interest include the Foxford Woollen Mills Visitor Centre which show how the mills came to be, founded in 1892 by a Mother Agnes Morrogh Bernard. The Deserted Village at Slievemore on Achill Island and the spectacular view from the Minaun Heights are always worth visiting.
Gift Shopping
In Westport there is a good selection of quality shops including the Foxford Woollen Mills shop, the Carraig Donn shop and many other smaller establishments that sell an impressive range of top quality Irish made items including knitwear, glassware and ceramics.      Westport also has a good selection of shops including a good book store called Duffy’s, a fishing tackle shop called Hewetson’s. a good sports shop called Elvery’s,  an outdoor and sports clothing shop stocking hiking boots, wet suits, fleeces, waterproofs etc called Portwest to name a few. It is a great way to spend a day when you need a few things and want to be able to enjoy your shopping.

There are also some interesting craft shops on Achill Island including a good mix of high quality items kept in the Beehive coffee and tea shop in Keel. Well worth a visit

Food Shopping
Their largest local supermarket is O’Connors which is located in the middle of the town with a car park behind the supermarket. They have a good fish counter as well as  a good wine section.  There is also a Tesco’s which you will find slightly out of town on the Galway road, just before the train station. There is a Boots chemist close to Tesco’s.
There is an excellant Health Food shop in Westport called Ylang Ylang who are well stocked and have very helpful staff
There are also three banks located in the town and numerous hole in the wall machines.
There is also a great range of pubs in Westport include the famous Matt Mulloy’s which will allow you a taste of traditional irish music in a traditional pub setting.  Be prepared to stand and drink lots of thirst quenching Guinness.   There are a selection of singing pubs as well as pubs doing good  pub food so ask for a recommendation.

Castlebar is the largest ‘local’ town supporting most of the county’s industry including the local government offices. It has a large Tesco’s, a Dunnes Stores,  an Aldi, a Lidl and numerous other chain stores including Woodies.

Food Shopping
The nearest food shop to Rosturk Woods is Doherty’s supermarket in Mulranny ( 3 miles).  It has a reasonable selection of everything including daily and Sunday papers.  It also has a fresh bakery section.  It is also a pub and has petrol pumps.
Newport is the next closest option. It has a good Centra supermarket called Sheridans and an excellent butchers called Kelly’s who sells prize winning sausages and black pudding as well as free range chickens, eggs, wine and vegetables. There is a second excellent butchers called Keane’s who are friendly and efficient.  There is a newsagents called Chambers who will order any paper you require and who also have a cuisine de france bakery and an ice cream machine. 

There is a five screen cinema called Mayo Movie World in Castlebar which runs all the latest releases. They advertise their programmes in the local newspaper The Mayo News or you can find their current programmes on line. 

Health Treatments
Westport offers a wide choice of alternative health treatments including Reiki,  Massage, Indian Head Massages to name but a few.   We can also arrange for an excellent masseuse to call to the house if you can provide her with a minimum of four massages to do.
One top recommendation is a day trip to Enniscrone (about an hour) for a trip to the Edwardian Seaweed Baths.  It is a lovely day out and a revitalising sauna and seaweed bath makes the drive well worthwhile.
